1968/9 G registration, Volkswagen Variant (also referred to as a Type 3 ‘Squareback'). LHD, 4 speed manual transmission, showing 95,000 miles and finished in white. Manufactured on 5th December 1968 for export to the United States, where it resided until imported into the United Kingdom in October 2001.

Having owned well over 100 air-cooled Volkswagen and Porsche between us, we have to tell you that this is one of the best we have ever driven. Strong performance with a great rorty sound, this is a perfect family hot-rod.

During 2005 the car was subjected to a comprehensive professional body-off restoration (reputedly costing in excess of £50,000) and colour change (from the factory orange to white) for a well known VW show organiser as part of his private collection. Even after ten years, the quality of the work undertaken is still clearly evident and the car has had almost no use, having covered under 2000 miles since the rebuild. After restoration the car was shown briefly at major UK VW events, before going to join a substantial car and motorcycle collection in the North of England.

A substantial performance upgrade was made in the form of a new, mildly tuned 1776cc engine, including such features as a full flow oil system (with an external twist-on canister style filter), counterweighted 69mm crankshaft, balanced con-rods, 8 dowel lightened flywheel, a 110 camshaft and a pair of 40 IDF carburettors. Surely all 'must-have' details on the tuning wish-list of any air-cooled VW enthusiast!

The car has been lowered front and rear, and now runs on a set of genuine Porsche Mahle ‘Gas Burner’ alloy wheels, with matched disc brakes all round, more than enough capability to match the uprated engine.

The previous keeper fitted discreet speakers into the door cards and at one time there was a CD Tuner head unit located in the glovebox. This has been removed, but access holes remain in the rear of the glovebox liner for wiring should you decide to refit a modern stereo and hide it out of sight.

Will be supplied with: 2 sets of keys; V5; 12 months MOT; service; HPI certificate; Volkswagen UK Ltd Chassis dating letter.

Our hours are: Monday-Friday 9am-5pm.
